How many numbers are in an address
WebThere is a total of 32 bits in IPv4 address space. For example, if a network has the address “192.0.2.0/24”, the number “24” refers to how many bits are contained in the network. From this, the number of bits left for address space can be calculated. WebEverything is binary, so we take the number of zeros in the subnet mask (32-X), raise 2 to that power, and then subtract the network identifier and broadcast address from the result. If you just want to know how many IP addresses (not quite the same thing as hosts) are in the range, don't bother subtracting 2.
